Biography

My name is jilang sun, you can call me Paul. I was born in China and came to Australia to study. I have lived there for over 10 years.

As to music, I first encountered rock and roll back in 80s when I was in high school. So that’s where the journey began. I was enchanted by this new sound, and the first song I sang in school was “every breathe you take” by the police. I didn’t have the lyrics back then so I just mimic the sound. I remembered the first time when I rehearsal on the stage, I could hear the noise from everywhere, people walking chatting etc., but when I started singing, it suddenly went quiet. That feeling was amazing and as fresh as yesterday. I became popular in school.

I wanted to be a writer before, but after that, I want to sing.

As to music influence. I have been through a number of phases. I settle on my Chinese influence mainly from CuiJian, and English from Fleetwood Mac. I always like the spirit of 60s, and through singing other people’s songs, I am trying to find my own voice.


After I came to Australia, as the time passed and I realized that the dream of music was still alive. I noticed in the rock and roll scene in the west rarely had a Asian face( except the pop groups from Korea). In the movies (if there was a movie about China), the music was too old.


Besides English songs, I am also start writing Chinese songs, but I just wonder if there was any place in the world besides China (which is censored) can accepted my submission.

I am still trying to be a singer-songwriter, writing songs for myself and others, and hopefully I can be heard besides black and Spanish artist.
