Throughout the month of April, AirPlay Direct and Holland Media Promotions cosponsored our first “All Things Digital” artist promotion contest for our artist/label members. This was a winner take all contest with a Grand Prize package valued at over $3,000 and includes a digital radio/media promotion campaign from HMP and a premier “Featured Artist” advertising package from AirPlay Direct. There were a lot of very cool songs submitted. AirPlay Direct would like to thank all of the entrants, as well as our co-sponsor HMP.

The winner of the “All Things Digital Contest” is The New and their new single “Sirens”!

“The New has a very cool and relevant style that wraps around their well crafted songs to create an interesting and unique sound. We are pleased to have The New as our winners and expect big things for them in the coming months.” Robert Weingartz, CEO - AirPlay Direct

The New was formed in 2006, after singer-songwriter Arthur Adam ten Cate and drummer Jaimy Quite decided that it was time to find a way past the sweet songs and beyond the subordinate drums, to find a way to make crafted, loud and really expressive melodic pop songs, using minimal means and maximal effort/energy. The New calls this: over-the-top-pop.

In the three years since Or Music introduced Los Lonely Boys to fans around the world, everything has changed for the unique and gutsy musical hermanos from West Texas. And yet, nothing has. “Sacred”, Los Lonely Boys’ eagerly awaited second album, both continues and expands upon the trio’s self-titled debut, with its deeply personal and stunning fusion of electric blues and Texas roots, of soulful grooves and good old-fashioned rock’n'roll, of searing six-string licks and Latin beats. “New times, new songs, new rhythms,” says frontman Henry Garza. “But it’s still basically, Los Lonely Boys.”

Working once again with producer John Porter (Keb’ Mo, Ryan Adams, B.B. King) at good friend Willie Nelson’s Pedernales Studios, the band recorded “Sacred” with the euphoria of their debut’s success-over two million copies sold, a Grammy for the monster single “Heaven”-still fresh. But if the brothers’ heads were sometimes spinning, their feet stayed on the ground.

These four tracks on ‘Four Keys to Zen’ portray a new direction for Mashed Buddha, who’s sublime, orchestrated grooves have thus far lacked one thing: Improvisation. John Corda, the sole musician responsible for Mashed Buddha, performs professionally as a keyboard player in soul/funk/latin bands. Whereas debut album ‘Subdue Your Mind’ was an experiment in electronica composition, ‘Four Keys to Zen’ (EP) and upcoming full length album ‘Zen Conspiracy’ are a collection of layered funk, drum n bass, and downtempo grooves that allow for jamming keyboard solos.

John Batdorf’s uniquely passionate vocals and guitar playing landed him his first major record deal back in the 70’s with Atlantic Records, and he’s continued to develop and grow as an artist to this day. Listening to John’s new solo CD, “Home Again”, is like discovering a musical treasure. This collection has all the familiarity of arguably the greatest musical era, the late 60s and early 70’s but with fresh new original songs that bring it all to the present. “Home Again” isan acoustic guitar and vocal enthusiasts dream come true!

The new Kacey Jones single, “Lie to Me Darlin’” has climbed 114 spots up the Music Row extended chart in the last four weeks. Momentum increased last week when GAC added the video to “The Edge of Country.” Featuring actor Waylon Payne (”Walk the Line”), the video is scheduled to be added to CMT and Music Choice this week. Miss Jones will perform this song and others from “Kacey Jones Sings Mickey Newbury” at The Mickey Newbury Memorial Gathering in Austin, Texas in June.

James Lee Stanley is a legendary writer/artist/performer. Not only does James write beautiful, intelligent, well-crafted songs, but he sings and plays the guitar so well, he makes the whole thing look effortless! He also punctuates his performance with often downright hilarious repartee in between numbers. So as an entertainer, it’s hard not to love the guy.

As an artist, James did have a Top-5 hit with “Coming Out of Hiding”. He also scored the Emmy award-winning Cathy specials for prime time CBS. With more than 20 albums to his credit, this very prolific singer-songwriter has garnered some incredible praise over the years.
