Radio Programmers Newsletter: March 2, 2007
AirPlay Direct is pleased to announce a new sponsor for our radio newsletter. Our sponsor for the month of March is Holland Media Promotion www.hollandmediapromotion.nl . HMP has a good track record and has developed a strong professional media network.
A little about HMP:
Holland Media Promotion was founded in early 2005 as a service organization for small to midsize record companies and independent artists who want to promote their music on radio, TV and in entertainment publications in the Netherlands. Despite the short company history, our team consists of experienced people with over 30 years of experience in personal media promotion. Internationally we aim for successful Indies and artists that want to explore their music in the Netherlands while remaining independent. For this we handle promotion and resulting sales through distribution from A-Z. Depending on budget / split we are open to discussing flexible deals.
Last month AirPlay Direct announced the winners of our radio programmers contest we ran with GoMusic1.com. Revolution Radio www.revolution.ukbands.net was the winner in our internet category and was excited and surprised by the win. Mike Crimlis owner and programmer for Revolution Radio had this to say, “I spoke with Steve Warren at GoMusic1.com over the weekend (he’s a really helpful & patient guy). I downloaded the trial version straight away to get
some experience with it & I’m truly blown away by the functionality of this software.
As it turns out, this has happened with the most impeccable timing possible as I was contacted by a radio charting system the same day and asked to participate in providing spin counts and data to their reporting system; something I would have been very hard pushed to achieve without the help of a program like Music-1. Thank you for giving me this opportunity… all the best, Mike.”

A dream coming of age. It all began with a suitcase, $1000 and a guitar at JFK, New York City. Classically trained and orchestra proven British Singer/Songwriter, Noush Skaugen, came to the US with nothing but raw talent and belief. Taking the hearts of her fans worldwide by storm her podsafe releases spread quickly and earned her a PodPlay Top 10 entry. Like wildfire the news spread across the internet and soon Swiss magazine “20 minutes” labeled her a “Poster-child for the digital music revolution”. Her steady rise led Noush to become a featured artist on the top online radio stations and Sirius Satellite Radio who described her as “Possibly the best singer you haven’t heard of yet”. Net Music Countdown, which is said to be the internet equivalent to Billboard, described Noush as “ready for prime time”. It didn’t stop there… recently Net Music Makers handpicked her as a genre-leader in Alternative Rock.
Noush’s sound tells a story, re-kindling the spirit of a modern-day Joni Mitchell with a sprinkle of Nathalie Merchant, “Let’s focus on the music & write great songs that will stand the test of time”. Let Noush take you on a journey with her much awaited self-released solo debut ‘EP’ Palomino, produced with Richie Stites, which has just been released to the public.

“Early to late 90s inspired indie with a decidedly European flavor. Songs vary from nocturnal singer-songwriter compositions to melodic outbursts and vitriolic overtures. Combining early Pixies energy and elements of experimental English punk…”
Founded in Roermond, The Netherlands in 1996, this foursome have released several independent recordings. They have well since earned their keeps by winning Studio Brussels’s Demo-Poll in 2003, supporting the likes of Kashmir (DK), Intwine (NL), Sukilove (BE) and Daryll Ann (NL). SOFA made it to the finals of the “Wraak van Brabant’ festival and later won “De Bandstrijd” while shooting their video to “Leap”. SOFA have been operating from Tilburg since 2000, finding a home base in Yvo’s studio The Velvet Overlook. Their untitled EP and album “All This Love” were produced there.

11 new originals from Vincent, a young new indie project in alternative pop music vein. “Happy Now” is the much anticipated debut release. It’s the result of 8 months of virtually non-stop writing, re-writing, rehearsing and recording. It’s a result of plenty of money that seemed to come out of every single last minute of an insanity-inducing job along with precious family donations. I had to find the right musicians to work with and friends are the best way to go. We all came from different backgrounds, new wave, reggae, pop, punk, even metal but this is what helped give the songs a real, flush feel and it was a very positive result.

What happens when you combine Kelly Keeling (Lynch Mob, Trans Siberian, MSG) and Marty Paris (Skulls) and then add a range of musical influences from Montrose to Metallica and Beethoven to Betts? You get Paris Keeling - a rock fusion mix of hard rock, classical, and pop. End of Ride (2007) is their debut release. “The musical brilliance that Marty Paris and Kelly Keeling have created with this debut release will give you goose bumps”.

Patti Witten’s fourth CD, “Tell the Wind” has nine original songs penned by Witten and there is a surprising acoustic version of Dandelion, the Rolling Stones 1967 flower-power single. ROSANNE CASH says, “Patti’s new record is beautiful, her voice is so radiant, and the writing is better than ever.”
This is acoustic rock and folk-pop at its best: the poetry of Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan and Folk’s “Second Wave” with the polish of contemporary pop like Aimee Mann, plus a taste of Americana like Lucinda Williams. Patti’s music has been played on AAA, community and college radio in the US, in Europe and XM Radio’s “The Loft,” and heard in film soundtracks and network TV shows.
