The familiar theme song “Won’t You Be My Neighbor” is recreated in its familiar form by Jon Secada and in a ballad version by Roberta Flack. John Pizzarelli, Toni Rose, Maureen McGovern, BJ Thomas and Bobby Caldwell add even more star power to the collection.
“We’re proud of every title we carry and every artist that has chosen AirPlay Direct as the way to distribute their music, but Songs from the Neighborhood is obviously something very special,” says AirPlay Direct CEO and Founder Robert Weingartz. “It just goes to show that our system is the best way to get music on the air in today’s digital environment, no matter how big the artist or the project. I look forward to hearing these songs, and it will feel good knowing we helped
make it happen.”
Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, the long-running brainchild of Fred Rogers, enchanted and educated millions of children in its PBS television run from 1968 to 2001. Many people know that Rogers was an ordained minister, but fewer are aware that he held a bachelor’s degree in music composition, and personally wrote most of the songs that became familiar to his viewers around the world.
Songs from The Neighborhood: The Music of Mister Rogersis an operating division of MemoryLane Syndication, Inc. MemoryLane Syndication is a wholly-owned subsidiary of MediaNet Group Technologies, Inc (OTCBB:MEDG).
“Today, many people look upon Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood with nostalgia, but the show was actually a cutting-edge approach to children’s programming. The original music told a wonderful message and we have taken a unique approach to producing that music in a manner that appeals to adults as well as children,” says album executive producer Martin Berns, a founder and Chief Executive Officer of MemoryLane Syndication. “Fred Rogers took an intelligent look at a developing medium and made it do something wonderful. In that sense, it’s only appropriate that we place our out of the box production with AirPlay Direct to distribute this album, because they’re applying the same creativity to the Internet that Fred Rogers brought to television.”
