Shawna Russell’s debut CD, Goddess was recorded in Oklahoma City and produced by Tim Russell (Shawna’s uncle) and Ted Curtis at Upstairs Productions Studio, and includes some of the top music industry professionals in the business. Upon first hearing Russell’s voice, world-famous musicians journeyed to Oklahoma to record with her, including Russ Kunkel, who has drummed for Carly Simon and James Taylor, and David Santos, bassist for Elton John, Billy Joel and John Fogerty. They were joined by vocal engineer, Julian King, who has made a name working with Country superstars, Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, and Toby Keith. The album was mixed by Nathaniel Kunkel, whose recent clients include Diana Ross and The Police.

Russell co-wrote 12 of the 13 songs on Goddess. “Most of the songs were written with my dad, Keith, and my uncle Tim,” she states. “It was the most amazing thing - we would get together with just some rough ideas, and several hours later, we would have these killer tunes. We joked that we were ‘channeling’ Woody Guthrie! (Also an Okemah native).

Russell’s title single, “Goddess” goes for adds at Country Radio on May 19.

In 1999 Marianne was invited to perform at the Zurich Peace Festival. “It was there that I realized writing music ‘for music’ was important to me, expressing emotions not opinions”. Marianne was invited to sing on a meditation video “Khuda” that has been shown in movie theatres throughout India and in over 200 meditation centers around the world. “I used the lyrics of a famous Indian Urdu poet Darshan Singh and wrote the music to ‘Restlessness of the Heart’ as I could relate to the emotions of that poem”. Marianne then released her first full length CD “Moments”. Three songs “Postcard”, “The River” and “Going Home” made it in the Top 100 Commercial Radio Chart. “Golden Rings” from her latest CD “Inspiration” has also reached the Top 100.

A country duo in the truest sense - husband & wife Keifer and Shawna Thompson. Not since Johnny and June, Jim Ed Brown & Helen Cornelius, and George & Tammy has there been real-life husband and wife duet partners. And in that male-female “relationship” tradition, there were Porter & Dolly, Conway & Loretta, and Kenny Rogers had some monster duets with a variety of female artists, in particular, Dolly Parton and Dottie West. The point is we’re missing that in country music today. Yeah, there’s Tim & Faith and they tour together some, but Keifer and Shawna are something different. They are two-gether.

Since being directed to Ron Armstrong’s CD, “Just Around The Bend”, it has become akin to a constant companion.

It’s a matter of simply loving Ron’s music and groove. It’s Rock, it’s Blues, it’s Country and there’s Soul and R&B in evidence… what is now tagged as Americana.
