Actor Wendell Pierce, whose recent work includes films Selma and Bad Moms, collaborated
with Irvin Mayfield on Strange Fruit, an earlier work composed by Mayfield in 2002 which
featured a big band, 80-piece choir and the narration of Pierce. In "Irvin, Turn It Up", we find
Pierce directly opposing his first interlude. Pierce urges Mayfield to turn up the volume, and by
doing so, turning up the party. Just three songs in, Pierce seems to have surrendered to the
music and has now joined the fun.
