Notes by Irvin Mayfield:
Like "Well, Alright" and "Don’t Worry, Be Happy", the original composition “Good Life” is a
continuation of the spirit of trumpeter/singer Kermit Ruffins. This song is all about people
enjoying themselves. The lyrics “Georgy Porgy is the vibe” is a nod to the late 1970s band Toto
and invites the listener to join the party. It features, singer/trombonist Glen David Andrews,
grandson of R&B singer Jessie Hill; George Porter Jr., bassist/Rock & Roll Hall of Fame
Nominee; and singer John Boutté, composer of HBO series' Treme theme song. Like in Bruno
Mars' "24K Magic's" introduction, a talk box instrument is used by Irvin Mayfield throughout
the song as well as pedal effects for the trumpet. The words are funny and take us from jump
ropes to bikes to yachts to shaking our things. This is indeed a classic jam.
