While most of the world became acquainted with twerking through Miley Cyrus’ stage and
video performances, twerking a.k.a. P-Poppin’ is the dance created out of bounce music.
Bounce was created in New Orleans as a response to the Hip-Hop of the early 1990’s. This
track features many Irvin Mayfield trumpet overdubs, narrated by the voice of singer/trumpeter
Kermit Ruffins. Images of a booty twerking on the street come to mind, shattering the trope of
New Orleans as singularly the city of jazz. This track continues to showcase New Orleans
music as an ever-evolving sound.
