Biography
Vincent Cross is a roots-oriented songwriter, musician, and composer born in Dublin, raised in Australia and now based in New York City. His first full-length debut album Home Away from Home received strong support from the Bluegrass, Country and Americana communities. In concert he accompanies himself on guitar and often features a traditional string band. His vocal influences range from the “untamed” Rosco Holcomb to the subtler alt-country musing of Jeff Tweedy.

Vincent’s new album A Town Called Normal, journeys through jazz infused old-time ballads, downhome country blues, traditional bluegrass, and indie-folk rock. Three different band configurations add to the musical diversity of this recording. Respected traditional players accompany Vincent on ‘Childish Things’ and ‘Cursed’ while there is a free jazz feel to ‘Footnotes’ and ‘Cuckoo.’ The third band unit adds a heavy dose of drums and mandolin to ‘Sometimes’ adding an indie-folk flavor.

Reviews:
“His songs are rooted in bluegrass and country tradition both thematically and stylistically, yet he is also willing to push at the edges a little bit, introducing a subtle sensitivity.”
- Matt Winters: The Moonshine Show, WKCR, NYC.

“In the East Village 2008, I heard a crystal clear voice that took me back to when I was being introduced to mountain music groups and families of Appalachia. It was a pleasure to hear such beauty coming out of Vincent Cross."- The Legendary Odetta NYC.

"Several of the songs sound like they could be Appalachian standards…except that they’re originals... Cross has a way with aphoristic old-time vernacular… " - New York Music Daily, NYC.

“Simply put, it {A Town Called Normal} just works. All backed by Cross’s songwriting and powerful and unique vocal, it makes for a great listen and strengthens my belief that roots music is still alive and well in the Northeast.” - Red Line Roots, Boston.
