Biography

Hi! My name is Anna Elizabeth Horton. Here's a few things about me...

I grew up in a very small town in Arkansas called Berryville. I started singing when I was about 3 years old, and I would just sit in my bathroom and sing "My Country Tis of Thee" over and over again, because at 3 years of age, it was one of the very few songs that I knew.

When I was a little girl I loved watching Judy Garland musicals, and I grew up listening to jazz, blues, and broadway music. I guess my passion for music just kind of grew over time. I was raised listening to jazz, and so when people would have me sing at events around town, I would always sing jazz songs.

I write my own songs as well, and play my guitar with them. This is my first album ever, and it happens to be jazz. I hope you enjoy it!

Love, Anna

"Then we segue into some cool jazz with Anna Horton in front of a small but sterling combo (Gus Smith, guitar, Clare Star, bass, Darren Novotny, percussion, and Jerry Yester, keys). Recorded at Willow Sound Studio, this is smooth as silk and cool as a spring breeze.

Anna Horton has a mellow alto voice with just the barest hint of a vibrato (which she has the good taste never to overuse). She covers eleven standards and makes them her own. She looks good too. One might surmise that she has listened to a Billie Holiday record or two, but she is not by any means trying to copy Lady Day. No, she swings to her own beat.

This is easily one of the best albums I have heard this year (and I have listened to a lot).
