Hazard County
Hazard County

In her wanderlust she sees him in
the autumn fields of Hazard County.
He sleeps beneath his silver wings as
He flies across America.

He leaves b/c he’s searching still
The city empties him like the jar of pills
He found beside his mothers bed.
Leaving’s the only thing he can believe

Drop the crown and anchor me,
a sailing ship at the sea lost upon the water…
Then steer me from afar, my flame, my falling star.
I’ll set my course along.

You wonder how I love you
while your runnin', so do I.
The way I tell this story is what
I wish for by and by.

A barrio man plays on his blue guitar,
a black lady sings in a back roads juke bar.
The old world gets so mean, and you become
a line it seems to keep me from sinking down.

Drop the crown and anchor me,
a sailing ship at the sea lost upon the water…
Then steer me from afar, my flame, my falling star.
I’ll set my course along.
