Don’t you just love a record that comes out of nowhere and makes you say ‘goddamn’? Without hype and buzz and all the usual mishagoss that goes with image making posturing, Insley just comes along with a driving set that genre splices Texas, roots, Americana, a few dashes of rock and a load of white boy soul and makes a set that make shim impressive debut look like last year’s news. This is the record that aspiring musician readers of “No Depression” wish they could make. If you dig the genre, this is a tough set to beat. Chris Spector, MIDWEST RECORD RECAP, July 28th, 2006
Although The Arizona Republic named him "Best Songwriter 2005," Dave Insley recently relocated to Austin. He’s been gigging incessantly ever since, behind his latest slab of country rock, "Here With You Tonight". Combining the best of the Bakersfield sound & two-steppin’ beats, with his own desert-bent sense of humor, which leads him to a singular place somewhere between Dwight Yoakam and Dave Alvin. Jim Caligiuri, AUSTIN CHRONICLE, August 24th, 2006
Dave Insley's relocation from Arizona to Austin has focused his dusty desert country sound as evidenced on his sophomore album. Like his excellent debut from last year, "Call Me Lonesome," Insley lopes through Western swing, country, folk, Tex-Mex and gospel, sounding like he's channeling the living spirit of Willie Nelson. Dare yourself not to think of the red-headed stranger when Insley rolls through the country gospel nod of "God Loves the Working Man," the swing balladry of "You're the One I Prefer," or the traditional weep of "Cashed in My Old Life." For all his obvious Willie-isms, Insley's success on both albums stem from his completely natural songwriting style and his limber performing chops, which is neither forced nor contrived to earn comparison. Besides, you don't get name checked against one of the greatest songwriters on the planet without a whole lot of talent to back it up and Dave Insley's got that and then some. Brian Baker, COUNTRY STANDARD TIME, September, 2006
