David Honeyboy Edwards - vocal

Recorded at a Rosenwald School on the outskirts of Clarksdale, MS July 20 and July 22, 1942 by Alan Lomax for the Library of Congress Archive of Folk Songs

Alan Lomax asked Honeyboy to demonstrate a field holler. Honeyboy added the guitar part to show Lomax how the song could be turned into a blues song from a field holler.

The songwriter credit on this and the other songs were researched by Alasdair Blazaar, aka Big Joe Louis, a U.K. musician who at the time of the London session for this album, worked at the London MCPS (copyright office.

Honeyboy heard this as a child picking cotton on his parent's sharecropping farm. He did not know Robert Smith.
