DS & Shaka Black - Teardrops
Shaka Black & Dub Station go back to 1987 anyway. This song has always been a favorite, whether Shaka was in or out of town, working with Dub Station or with other bands. Boston's #1 DJ Junior Rodigan swore by the song, and always wished he'd had a chance to remix it. Anyway, a live version appears on Shaka's "Chant Rastafari" (recorded with Dub Station, and who's cover is used as the song image here). But this version is taken from Dub Station's first (self-titled) release, back in 1997. It was produced by rocker Tommy Osuna, and features the backup vocal stylings of r&b crooner Anastasia. In spite of its idiosyncratic production, it's a lasting early monument to Shaka Black's work with Dub Station.
