Will You Love Me in Heaven
He stands by the river at the end of all roads
He lives in the bottle that’s the way that love goes
He had left for another tore the whole world apart
Then he saw them together and it ended his heart

There’s no sleep for fools and the loves left behind
In the place where your memories make you wish you were blind
So he folds up the paper his last thoughts within
One last shot of courage and he starts to wade in

Will you love me in heaven will I be your man
Will God give your soul to hold in my hand
Will we walk through an Autumn that never does end
Will you love me in Heaven when I see you again

There were few at the service though once he knew fame
He had love, he had fortune most folks knew his name
But the tall trees stood silent ‘round the place where he’d rest
As the old padre read the poet’s final request

Will you love me in heaven will I be your man
Will God give your soul to hold in my hand
Will we walk through an Autumn that never does end
Will you love me in Heaven when I see you again

Years later she came there, we watched her walk through the town
Way up to the hillside on the burying grounds
And he was there waiting but his soul had fled home
And her tears ran like rain through the words on the stone

Will you love me in heaven will I be your man
Will God give your soul to hold in my hand
Will we walk through an Autumn that never does end
Will you love me in Heaven when I see you again
Will you love me in Heaven when I see you again
