IT CAN BE THIS WAY ALWAYS

It can be this way always, but we might not like it if it was
There are so many small ways happiness disenchants us
And the quickest of all ways is getting what we want because
It can be this way always, but we might not like it if it was

There is only so much friendship, there is only so much love
There is only so much kindness that one can rise above
And there’s a limit to the healing, at least that’s what I’ve found
Eventually the goodness begins to beat you down

It can be this way always...

This community of caring is a wonderful retreat
But some things I’m not in to sharing, and some things I just won’t eat
Then I start to bend a little and I begin to realize
Maybe somewhere in the middle there’s a healthy compromise

It can be this way always, might learn to like it if it was
