Glimpse Of God
Glimpse of God

Sirens in the distance tell me people never change

I'm walkin' down the street and every face is strange

Feet nailed together, fixed in place like a star

And when I look in the mirror the future seems so far

Fear grows and grows into a lightning rod

A fallin’ star, a glimpse of God

One man takes pride in having nothing at all

Another takes pride in filling room from wall to wall

Finds himself a new thing everyday

Gonna polish it, package it, put it on display

He bought another house out on Cape Cod

You can rent it on the weekend for a glimpse of God

Well a few years ago up in Boston town

The Catholic Church had its head bowed down

If you hold somethin' back, you're gonna get hurt

Reputation and honesty turn to dirt

Out on St. Peter's Square there's a firing squad

People all lined up for a glimpse of God

It's never got to this point before

Conformity is poundin' on my door

You're expectations are too low

And it's about time somebody told you so

So if you wanna make a difference, you better just quit

‘Cause everybody in charge is old and celibate

Jesus and Moses were never well groomed

Ya trust a man in a suit, you're probably doomed

Stay off the right track, reveal the facade

Don't mistake good luck for a glimpse of God

Don't mistake good luck for a glimpse of God

Don't mistake good luck for a glimpse of God
