Love in the Middle Ages
Love in the Middle Ages 3:25

Oo-ooh. Love in the middle ages.

The ladies at lunch, the men at the bar,
the couples on dinner cruises,
over beers and cocktails are sharing details
of life’s little bumps and bruises.

And it’s not their workouts they’re talking about
or the styles in the fashion pages,
or the score of some game or riches and fame,
it’s love in the middle ages.
Oo-ooh, love in the middle ages.

Their 20s are through, their 30s are too,
their 40s are gone or going.
They’ve all settled down in a comfortable town,
their children are grown or growing.

And they’re basically fine, most of the time,
but there’s a question, and it comes in stages:
is there something I’ve missed, is this all there is
to love in the middle ages?
Oo-ooh. Love in the middle ages.

What happened to sweet romance on Sunday afternoon?
Dancing like a fool for the one in front of you?
Talking late in the light of a summer moon?
Feeling like we always did when love was new?

In pairs and alone they all will walk home
from their lunches, and drinks, and dinners,
to the cares of the day, the bills to be paid,
and wishing that they were thinner.

But it can’t be denied, that feeling inside,
and they know that the fire still rages,
so they’ll keep alight till they get it right—
love in the middle ages.
Yeah, they’ll keep it alight till they get it right—
Love in the middle ages.
Oo-ooh. Love in the middle ages.
