Waltzing to Sunset (Pappy's Song)
PAPPY’S SONG
WALTZING TO SUNSET
Sandy Carroll

Early full moon on a wet afternoon
Wind whistlin’ like a moanin’ kazoo
The Gods were all mumbling
In whispers of thunder
That his troubles would be over soon
Crickets were callin’
the darkness was fallin’
Up his back, down his spine while he found
The glorious memories of the way it all was
Back before all the years
Crumbled him down

WALTZING TO SUNSET
MOVIN’ SLOW
WALTZING TO SUNSET
HOLDING ON, LETTING GO
AND AS HE KEEPS WALTZING
HE LEAVES SOME OF HIS LIGHT
WALTZING TIL SUNSET TURNS INTO NIGHT

He taught me baseball and fishin
And paying attention
To the silence of trees in the night
He taught me to drive and how to decide
When to turn back
When to turn to what’s right
And he always looked sharp
In his Sunday suit
With his bible tucked under his arm
And the day that my first born
Came along for the ride
Was one of the happiest times of his life

His fields of glory
Were the funniest stories
He could laugh till he got tears in his eyes
And he stands very tall
Though his steps seem much smaller
And he’s living his life now
Saying goodbye
To the early full moons and the wet afternoons
