Biography
Harvey Perdue was born and raised in Elvis country, the famed Memphis, Tennessee. He can recall childhood memories of passing by Graceland almost everyday and it always caused him as a little boy to wonder what was behind those beautiful gates. Harvey's father was the pastor of some of Elvis' family, so Elvis' music made a definite impression on Harvey's music career. Knowing about Elvis' birthplace, Tupelo, Mississippi and Sun Records, Harvey also recorded with the legendary recording engineer Roland James who worked with all the great stars of Sun Records.
"Tupelo Gold" and "Hound Dog and Blue Suede Shoes" were both written by Harvey Perdue. "Tupelo Gold" is a tribute story of the life of Elvis and his rise to great fame.
"Hound Dog and Blue Suede Shoes" was written the day after Elvis' passing in 1977 as Harvey was reading the Dallas Morning News in his tour bus. He saw where the reporter listed all of
Elvis' hit songs and decided to put their titles together to create his first tribute song to "The King of Rock and Roll". The song has 33 titles of Elvis hits....see if you can find them.
"How Great Thou Art", which was Elvis' favorite Gospel song, Harvey recorded this in Nashville with the help of some true Elvis fans and He sings as a praise to God and a tribute to a friend of God, Elvis Presley.
Not only has the tradition of being an Elvis fan been influential in Harvey's career, but it has been passed down to Jenny Jo. Jenny Jo is a huge Elvis fan, and has several albums and Elvis memorabilia. She has done a tribute to Elvis on her new album, which is to be released in the near future. A song called "Coming Home to Stay," which Elvis recorded early in his career, was the song of choice which to pay tribute to what Jenny calls "God's most beautiful creation".
It was recorded with all the modern recording equipment in Nashville, but it captures that wonderful oldies sound, including Dave Roe playing the upright bass.
"Cadillac Blood" was written by Harvey in 2000. When Jenny was to graduate high school in 2007, the gift she got from her dad (Harvey) and mom (Delores) was a Nashville album. The song was recorded with a modern Elvis feel, and Jenny listened to "Jailhouse Rock" to capture some of Elvis' vocal style for this song. See if you can hear a young Elvis sound in Jenny's voice on this song. This song was posted because Cadillacs were Elvis' favorite car and Elvis' first Cadillac was painted pink. Throughout Elvis' life, he continued to drive Cadillacs and gave them away to those who could never afford such a luxury.
