"Taking a decidedly spare and straightforward approach to meat and potatoes rock’n’roll, this album nonetheless manages to do the trick in a pleasingly basic and unpretentious manner. The vocals are direct and effective, the arrangements tight, unadorned, and refreshingly bereft of any needless flashy razzle-dazzle, the songwriting clear, concise, and likewise to the point. The slow tempos and subdued beats for the most part keep things mellow, yet still melodic and listenable. Moreover, the ringing guitars, smooth basslines, and steady drums jell together to create a nicely blunt, jangly, and tuneful sound that may not be very fancy or polished, but hits the spot thanks to a certain winningly rough’n’ready sonic immediacy. Favorite song: the stirring and spirited barn burner “(GB).” A real solid and satisfying album."
