Alec Vinsant
Biography
At the young age of six, Alec had his first guitar lesson and loved it. The drive to play came from the influence of his grandfather, who played in a country band in his earlier years. After nine years of classical guitar lessons, Alec started branching out into other genres. One of his first major influences was Nickel Creek. Alec tried many different genres before finally finding his groove. John Mayer, Jack Johnson, and Dave Matthews had the most impact on Alec's early playing and writing style.
At sixteen years old, Alec wrote his first song titled "To the End." This sparked his enthusiasm to write. By the summer of 2007, Alec had written around 10 original songs. At that point he decided to perform for the first time. May 2007, Alec performed, outside of guitar class rehearsals, for the first time. He showcased his newly written original songs, and a few covers by Nickel Creek, John Mayer, and Jack Johnson. After that first show, Alec decided to start recording his music. He bought a boss recording system for home recording to start off with. He made friends with local musicians, who helped record additional instruments to Alec’s song tracks. Most of the recording was used for practice purposes to listen, find errors, and improve. Not for distribution.
In 2008, while searching YouTube, Alec stumbled upon an artist named Andy McKee. This instrumental/acoustic player had a unique and inspiring sound. The level of skill Andy McKee put into his music inspired Alec to write instrumental songs like his. Although Alec listened to mostly rock, in fall of 2008, he wrote his first instrumental song titled "Walking in Rhythm" which was based off similar techniques used by Andy McKee. These acoustic songs have become the highlight of Alec’s performances. Everyone who hears his acoustic pieces become captivated and amazed at the uniqueness and originality. As of November 2011, Alec has written eight acoustic pieces, five of which are on his debut CD "Reality."
Alec has been in three different bands since 2006, ranging from punk/rock, classic/rock, to alternative. After dealing with the hardships of getting everyone together for practice, he decided to write his own music, record it, and perform them on his own.
Alec has played in many coffee shops, restaurants, and small venues over the past few years. Alec loves it more and more each time. The bigger the crowd the better he plays. Alec hopes to continue performing in the future. With the release of his first CD "Reality", Alec hopes to share his music with the world.
Alec will continue to write and record beyond his debut album. He is currently in the process of working out a date to record his second album, to be announced later.
