The Templehouse Strathspey & Reel / John Mhosey McGinley’s / The Mermaid of Mullaghmore
“The Templehouse Reel” is played all over the country but here we precede it with a strathspey which was played in Donegal by the Belcruit fiddler, Danny O’Donnell, and the great John Doherty. It was published as early as 1757 by Robert Bremner as “Struen Robertson’s Rant”. “John Mhosey McGinley’s” is a tune which Mairéad got from an old recording of John Doherty. “The Mermaid of Mullaghmore” again comes from the playing of John Doherty. It is associated with the story of a sea captain who was enchanted by a mermaid singing this tune on the ocean waves.
