War Story
WAR STORY (Scheinman) Red Rudy Too Tunes/BMI 3:48

I went down to Mississippi
Never been through there before
I was looking for some clues
‘bout my father in the war

I went down to Mississippi
Had an address in my hand
To an old friend of my fathers
Back in Viet Nam

Just another old war story
‘bout my old man
just another tall tale
‘bout some guy I ain’t seen
only heard ‘bout second hand

I just laugh when they tell me
You look just like him
But I still don’t get it
When they say you should’ve seen him when
Growing up at the table
I would pretend
To fill the shoes
I couldn’t fit into back then

Well my mother’s got some pictures
Got some medals on the wall
And a U.S. flag folded neatly
In the closet down the hall

Her new husbands a bad drinker
And he stays out all he can
My mother waits up for him
Staring at the pictures of my old man

Just another old war story
‘bout my old man
just another tall tale
‘bout some guy my old man
Just another old war story
‘bout my old man
just another tall tale
‘bout some guy I ain’t seen
only heard ‘bout second hand
only heard ‘bout second hand
