Falling (For You)
While I was a student at McNally Smith College of Music in St. Paul, MN in 2008, I wrote the chorus to "Falling" for one of my songwriting classes. I wrote verses and a bridge, too, though I really didn't like them. I put the song away and wrote it off as a "bad" song. I hated writing bad songs! I was quite disappointed in myself.

In January of 2010, when I was halfway through recording my debut album, "Ready To Go", I found the song and thought I should rewrite it. I couldn't remember the verses and had changed the chorus by default, so I thought it might be easy to remake. I shared the tune with Billy Smiley (who produced the record) and he loved the hook, so we tracked the music which left me with no choice but to finish it! It was kind of like homework as there was a major time-crunch and a lot of pressure to make it great, but . . .

After several weeks of listening to the rough instrumental track in the car and on my breaks at work, I came up with the verses during one of my 30-minute "lunches" at Starbucks. I wrote the lyrics on a sheet of paper feed from the receipt machine and stuck it in my pocket. I got home, grabbed my guitar, strummed it out and realized it was finally finished and I actually LIKED it!

We tracked the song and I was really pleased with the outcome because it's different from most of my songs! Blair Masters added some beautiful piano parts and before I knew it, it was one of my (and many others') favorite songs.
