Playin' The Blues

Mama said, “Daddy,you ain’t been to work all week.”
The children’s hungry. They want something to eat.”
Daddy said, “I got some news.”
“It ain’t like I’ve been doin’ nothin’. I’ve been playin’ the blues – playin’ the blues.

“Mama said, “I know you got the music runnin’ through your head”
“This sandwich ain’t got any meat. Tastes a lot like bread.”
“The man says the rent’s overdue.”
“What do I say when he comes knockin’ and you’re just playin’ the blues – playin’ the blues.?”
And Daddy said….

“Mama said, “Late last night I left you in that chair.”
“This mornin’ I was up with the sun and you were still right there.”
Your days and nights are confused.”
“Is there anything that you live for besides playin’ the blues – playin’ the blues.
And Daddy said…

Mama said, “I ain’t seen you this content in a long, long while.”
“Never seen nobody play the blues with such a great big smile.”
“I’ve got an old harp that’s hardly been used.”
“I’ll go get it and I’ll join you just playin’ the blues – playin’ the blues.”
And they both said…
