Islander
Islander

There’s at least a hundred reasons I’m still here
And at least as many things that you have shown
The waters wrapped around your shores
Have been like a mother’s arms
Making me an islander
There’s at least a hundred faces that I treasure
With character the colors of the sky
Like the rocks that gather round your shores
They’ve been a strength to me
Making me an islander
Hundreds of songs, hundreds of dances
Hundreds of poems by heroes and romantics
(Storms of trial and doubt, and stories rich and scandalous)
(Ball games in the field, and gardens feeding deer)
There’s been at least a hundred boats within your harbor
Island Spirit, Island Daughters, Island Sun
And as we watch them from a distance,
Safely make their way to shore
We’re proud of all the islanders
Now there’s a hundred years of history behind you
Though there are but a few that we have shared
The breezes blowing on your shores
Bring ever changing dreams
And new islanders.
