Biography
“Best” released January 16, 2009 by Indie rocker Keith Secola is a fifteen track album featuring a mixture of Secola favorites including “Drum in the Car”, “4R Ancestors”, “Means So Much”, a Punk Rock version of his hit “NDN Kars”, which includes “Kokopelli Blues” and “Sea of Cortez” from his multi-award winning album “Native Americana” featuring legendary Doors drummer and long time friend John Densmore; and a few new, never released songs featuring artist Melanie Storm.
Secola has been a long-standing proponent of world music throughout his career and one of the most recognized promoters of Native American and Independent Artists. Being a self-promoter throughout most of his career has taught him a thing or two about hit songs and what the fans want. This is more than evident with artist Melanie Storm who Secola has chosen to feature on this album.
Storm harmonizes with Secola on the bluesy “Rise and Fall” where her soulful voice and style blends perfectly with his. When Secola allows her the lead on “King of the Javelines” he knew what he was doing. The recording brings to mind traces of legendary recording artist Buffy Sainte-Marie, yet distinctively remains a Storm/Secola owned song.
His "Native Americana" album featuring Densmore won three Native American Music Awards when released and was voted “Best Folk/Acoustic Album of the Year” by the Aboriginal Peoples Choice Awards. Upon release Brendan Joel Keeley of the Phoenix New Times wrote, "Native Americana" is just further proof that Keith Secola is far more than a niche artist; he's an amalgamation of this country's musical heritage."
He has served as the musical choreographer for the Winter Olympics, hold a business management degree from the University of Minnesota and tours extensively throughout the US and other countries. He routinely volunteers his time in various soup kitchens to help feed and cloth the hungry, holds benefit concerts to raise money for children and environmental issues; and various other causes.
Keith Secola is Anishinabe (Ojibwa) originally from the Mesabi Iron Range country of northern Minnesota, owner of AKINA Records, Tempe, Arizona and a seven-time Native American Music Award winner.
