Hermit on the Hill
Hermit on the Hill
Susie Warley
Everywhere I look I see, a sea of strangers
The world outside looks so cold and full of danger, huh-huh
People rushing here and there amid the blare of horns and Babylon clamor
Here’s where I’ll stay far away and be a silent observer, huh-huh
So who’s the Mad Hatter here
Is it the hermit on the hill
Or you down there in the city
You know I just can’t tell
Peering through my window to the world like a cat in the jungle
Here’s where I’ll hide safe inside my little bungalow, huh-huh
Experience has taught me well tears are my teacher
Oh, yes, I’ve had friends but they’ve all been fair-weather, huh-huh
So who’s the Mad Hatter here
Is it the hermit on the hill
Or you down there in the city
You know I just can’t tell, ah well, yeah—
And who’s gonna miss me, who’s gonna miss me when I’m gone
They’ll say she lived a lonely life, ah but they’re wrong so wrong
‘Cause I’m never lonely here with my paint brush and easel
And my canvas of my painted people
A far gentler race than those of clay (peaceful people)
A far gentler race than those of clay
