Southern Rose
Tour bus left Savannah
Heading for Texarkana
Through the heart to Ole Dixie
Only stopped to buy some good Southern whiskey
Over the Mississippi
Passed through Vicksburg passing around that whiskey
Wanted to stop in Ole Tallula
But we passed right on through ya
Traveling down those Southern roads
Found me a Southern Rose
Down those hot, damp, sweaty roads
Who would have thought, who would have known
Traveling down those Southern roads
Found me a Southern Rose
Down those hot, damp, sweaty roads
A soft, sweet smellin’ Southern rose
Pulled in a juke joint diner
South of Shreveport, just south of the line yea
Slingin’ slop and pushin’ beer
Was the sweetest little thing I’ve seen ‘round here
Dark long hair and big blue eyes
With a kisser that could only make ya smile
Talked like an angel, walked like a demon
Kinda woman that’s totally worth keeping
Traveling down those Southern roads
Found me a Southern Rose
Down those hot, damp, sweaty roads
Who would have thought, who would have known
Traveling down those Southern roads
Found me a Southern Rose
Down those hot, damp, sweaty roads
A soft, sweet smellin’ Southern rose
Got out the boys in the band
Played a serenade from Avenue Grand
Took some time for her to send me a sign
Took even longer to persuade her to be mine
Billy, Joe, and daddy, too
Came by and warned me I better be true
Mama came out to wave the bus goodbye
Promised we’d be back around by and by
Traveling down those Southern roads
Found me a Southern Rose
Down those hot, damp, sweaty roads
Who would have thought, who would have known
Traveling down those Southern roads
Found me a Southern Rose
Down those hot, damp, sweaty roads
A soft, sweet smellin’ Southern rose
