World in a Cup

Every morning I fill my cup
With something strong, and I get up
To face the world and do what I gotta do

With every sip that I drink in
The steam whispers what might have been
Regret ain’t sweet, lonely it’s a bitter brew

And every day’s the same
I won’t try nothin’ new
But those who think they know
Say I ought to

The simple taste we share
Keeps me close to you
Warm like your body, strong like the love we knew

Another morning coffee black
The only reason I’m off my back
Is so I can spend another day on my knees

With every sip the world just turns
Sometimes it’s cold, sometimes it burns
But it’s always dark, it tastes the same to me

And today I’ll have the same
But I feel a little colder
Waitin’ for the change… Getting older

Everybody talks at once
Complaints and idle chatter
My cup is full… Nothin’ else matters

Lord please steady my hands
Only you could understand
What a mess it would be,
if someone should carelessly
Trip me up, my whole world is in this cup

Every day’s the same
Maybe I should try something new
But then again, I just don’t want to

The simple taste we shared
Keeps me close to you
It’s warm like your body, strong like the love we knew

Lord please steady my hands
Only you could understand
What a mess it would be,
if someone should carelessly
Trip me up, my whole world is in this cup

Every morning I get up
I look for strength inside this cup
To face the world…do what I gotta do…
