The Bittersweet Waltz

Out of the past a face divine
Suddenly real, not in my mind.
Different but familiar, the years have been kind.
And a look in her eyes, (one) that I’d longed to know
awakened old feelings from long, long ago.

Memories flood my mind like a River
Wash away the ground 'neath my feet
The sweet fragrance of your/my first summer love
Runs like good spirits through me
Whiskey warm and so bittersweet

Sharing memories long ago
Made me soon come to know
The feelings I’ve harbored were mine all alone
In that moment I knew, there was no more to say
(And) I stood lost in silence as she walked away

Memories flood my mind like a River
Wash away the ground 'neath my feet
The bitterness of unanswered love
Runs like a poison through me
Whiskey warm and so bittersweet
