Songs From Home
SONGS FROM HOME © 2012 Tom Galbraith

He was on a dusty road half a world away

on a mountain fightin through the day

It was hard keepin warm but easy gettin lonely

and harder bein there every day....but he found a way

In his mind he was sitting on his back porch pickin'on

an old country gentlemen tune

til the sounds of the war brought him back to the mountain

and the job he was sent there to do...but got him

through

were songs from home they kept him goin

reminded him what he's fighting for

songs from home it helped him knowin

one day soon he'll be done with war and headed
home

He was six months gone away from his home and

family

for the third time in just two years

The worst time was at night when everything got quiet

and the silence ringing in his ears...made him face his

fears

Would he ever make it home could this day be his last

was he different from what he'd seen and done

would the nightmares go away when he got home to stay

or would they haunt him til his dyin day..he really

couldn't say

The first two times were tough, but this time was
enough

ya can't watch your kids grow up from so far away

he's proud he served his land and he'd do it all again

but it's time to trade his gun for and old guitar

and songs from home

Songs from home they kept him going

reminded him what he's fightin for

songs from home it helped him knowing

one day soon he'll be done with war and headed

home
