Old Cane Press
My grandfather, Oscar, had a cane press and a small crop of sorghum that he and his cousins would press in the fall to make molasses. I would watch the mule hooked on the long pole walk in big circles around the press. I loved sorghum molasses (the best!), the mule and my grandfather. He would give me a piece of crushed raw cane, and I would suck out the sweetness. It was the time of year that I liked the best.
