The Backyard Blues Bandits
The Backyard Blues Bandits
copywrite: Donald M. Nivens Jr.

In the heart of the southland
there's a juke joint that hammers
out the blues every Saturday night
after 60 years of reeling that old tin shack kept screaming where the blues lovers play thru the night
but ol gip he got hasseled
by the Bessemer city council
oh the council they turned every stone
and the police came calling
for the backyard blues bandits
and now the blues don' t play anymore

Oh you know it ain't right
police called in the night
and now the blues don't play anymore
and I find myself searching for another
juke joint.

Oh you know it aint easy
when your town calls a meeting
and the land sharks they come out to play.
but ol Gibson he rallied and the world screamed and shouted
for that juke joint to play on anyway

Oh you know it ain't right
police called in the night
and now the blues don't play anymore
and I find myself searching for another
juke joint.

Ol Gip had a few rules
always pray when we start
and we won't have no swearing in the night
and if you come with a woman, you leave with that woman, but you women you can leave with who you like
from all over the nation
all over creation
you'll find yourself welcome in his home
it don't matter if you're black no it don't matter if you're white
cause the blues has a color all it's own

Oh you know it ain't right
police called in the night
and now the blues don't play anymore
and I find myself searching for another
juke joint.

Oh you know it ain't right
police called in the night
and now the blues don't play anymore
and I find myself searching for another
blues song to take me home
