Brother to Brother

Brother to Brother was written for a former DJ friend of mine. His youngest brother was tragically killed in a motor cycle accident in October of 2015. They were very close and enjoyed competing by customizing their bikes. After reading his posts in the weeks after, I became concerned with some of the content and decided to reach out to him and talk. Toward the end of our conversation, he said, “I want you to write a song for me and my brother”. Then he said, “you’re the only one that could write that song”. I was taken by surprise by this request. I reluctantly said I would. Reluctant because I knew how sensitive this was to him. I told him it might take me a while. 6 months later I sent him a rough acoustic recording and he loved it. I took it into the studio for production and worked to get it finished before Christmas. He said it was the greatest Christmas present he had ever gotten. I have been very humbled by it all. I’ve played it live and gotten a lot of feedback where people would relate to it in different ways.
