Beth McKee releases Next to Nowhere 2/28/12
This year marks the release of Beth McKee's Next To Nowhere, her first solo album of originals. McKee, a MIssissippi native who attended Ole Miss and perfected her sound touring throughout the South, is proud to present this new set of songs that reflect and amplify a lifetime of experience as a modern woman of the South. Accented by the sounds of Louisiana and the blues, R&B and the swamp, her voice reaches audiences from all backgrounds and times, yet always in the same places in the soul.
McKee recorded her Bobby Charles tribute I'm That Way at home with husband Juan Perez on drums and other friends lending a musical hand. The experience showed McKee that she could create her best music outside of anyone's system and by following her own muse. On Next To Nowhere McKee embraced this method again converting her home into a recording studio, this time with an all original set of songs.
Her latest songs were inspired by the paths McKee crossed supporting I'm That Way. Traveling around so many Southern cities, she met female fans that soon became a group of friends. McKee dubbed them the Swamp Sistas:
"My Southern roots are important to me and I take them with me everywhere I go. The Swamp Sistas are an amalgamation of old friends, new friends and friends of friends that I keep in touch with on a regular basis, be it at my shows, online, or on the phone. My Sistas inspire me to make my shows about more than music. I want them to be an experience that shares a sense of roots and culture as well."
