As I was completing the new album, I felt I needed a really romantic song to add to the mix. Since I don't write that often in minor keys, I thought this would be a good opportunity. I had an old acoustic blues cut that was a tribute to Blind Lemon Jefferson and had the line "brought misery to my head" as well as a reference to the postman. Once I got the title, everything else just fit into place. The flute solo (the first I have had on a studio recording) seemed to fit just right.
