Peter Monk was a Grateful Dead/Ice Nine writer, and an old friend from the 70's. I used to visit him in West Marin County, having moved from the Philly area to Marin with The Goodman Brothers. We wrote several good songs that the band used to play, but this one was written posthumously. He was quite a character, and was, for instance, a monk in Burma, with saffron robes and a begging bowl in 1957. Independently of myself, my partner Duck was also quite close, much closer, to Peter a year or two later, until his death. (On s lighter note, Peter's son Bodhi Freedom has a popular wine bar/restaurant in SF called The 20 Spot.)
