Deluxe Reissue - 3 albums on 2 CDs (re-mastered) + DVD with a full band performance from 1973 at the Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin, TX
During the 1960s Chip Taylor had great success as a songwriter – Wild Thing and Angel of the Morning were two of the most iconic hits of the decade. Pop, rock, country and R&B stars recorded his songs, including Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, Jimi Hendrix, Willie Nelson, Dusty Springfield and Frank Sinatra.
As the 70s began, Taylor began a solo career with the well-regarded Gasoline album on Buddah Records. This led to being signed to Warner Brothers in 1972. The following year, Taylor returned with a very country-sounding record. Although there was some concern at Warner Bros (which didn’t have a country division), Last Chance was released to critical acclaim. Rolling Stone hailed it as one of the year’s best albums. Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Anne Murray and George Strait would go on to record cover versions of the songs on Last Chance. It is one of the foundations of country/rock.
Although it had limited commercial success, Taylor soon followed with two more country/ rock records with Warner Brothers – Some Of Us (1974) and This Side of the Big River (1975). These great albums on now available together for the first time, taken straight from the original master recordings. In addition, a never-seen-before concert performance from 1973 is included in this deluxe reissue package. There is also a 28 page booklet with Taylor’s account of the period and rare photos.
