She won't be down
She won’t be down

She sits at the window and watches the days endlessly passing her by.
And though she remembers a time she could reach out and take one she no longer tries.
And the memories she gathers around her protect her like sentinels guarding the queen.
And no one may enter the castle and no one’s permitted to leave.
No one’s permitted to leave.

And she won’t be down tonight.
Nothing tomorrow could promise her could entice her to leave her castle behind.
She won’t be down, she won’t be down tonight.

She wakes in the morning and takes her illusions and carefully puts them away.
Fragile as gossamer, precious and rare, she treasures the few that remain.
While safe and secure in her tower of mortar and stone made of old hopes and dreams,
she quietly, patiently, waits for the day the opening door sets her free.
But the prisoner alone holds the key.

And she won’t be down tonight.
Nothing tomorrow could promise her could entice her to leave her castle behind.
She won’t be down, she won’t be down, she won’t be down tonight.

High in her tower she watches the world as though she were watching a play.
If the story is sad she can bring down the curtain simply by looking away.
Madame, though grateful, regrets to inform she declines invitation today.

And she won’t be down tonight.
Nothing tomorrow could promise her could entice her to leave her castle behind.
She won’t be down, she won’t be down tonight.

She sits at the window and watches the days endlessly passing her by.
