Biography

Jonathan Nelson(29, Guitar/vocals) is the founder and main songwriter of Kampion. He decided, at the beginning of 2009, (after being in a couple of very average bands) to try and get something special together. He spent some time studying the art and craft of song writing, trying to figure out what separates a good song from a great song. After working hard and getting some strong material written, He scoured the London music scene, hunting for somebody whose musical talent was bigger than their ego. After several near misses (and lucky escapes), he got lucky and bumped into the sultry voiced Elisa Prilleux (21, Viola/vocals). He was blown away by her soulful vocals. Jonathan also discovered (to his delight) that Elisa was a talented songwriter and viola player and thus, Kampion was born.
Kampions music is a mixture of old and new influences. With light contemporary songs like ‘FOOLS, DRUNKS & TRAVELLERS’, contrasted with the timeless ‘HOPE IS A BIRD’. Kampions debut album ‘ALL THE USUAL CLICHES’ is shaping up to be a classic. The album itself is coming together in an interesting way. Jonthan and Elisa are the only official members. Through happy accidents and word of mouth, every other player has been handpicked for their particular skills. With some experienced musicians on board,including the Keyboardist from “ The Beautiful South”, each song has a different ‘feel’, whilst still maintaining the Kampion sound. Seeing the sense in the saying ‘if you can hear the bandwagon, you’ve missed it’ Kampion’s philosophy has been to ignore what’s trendy and have stuck to playing music they enjoy and connect with. Kampion are currently exploring the London open mic scene. A highlight was being playing live on ‘inspiral radio’ based in’ the inspiral lounge’ in Camden town.............ENJOY!
