M. Lucas' DUST: New Album Release
"An original voice, somewhere between Ray Wylie Hubbard and Tom Waits." --KUSH Radio, Cushman, Oklahoma
Lucas's Dust releases to EuroAmericana radio on November 23, 2010. Ten short stories with a long past, the songs explore dark corners of American legend, from keelboat toughs to sideshow freaks.
The album is a gritty Americana triple-twist of outsider folk, blues, and old country. Lucas's acoustic guitar is the pulse throughout, while his B3 and Telecaster create subtle atmospherics. Bleu Mortensen, of Lyle Lovett fame, plays the pedal steel of the Orbison-esque "Gold" and also the mournful dobro of "Last Things." He and Lucas are joined by Jenée Fleenor on fiddle, whose bow is front and center on a full-tilt "Lost John."
The dreamers, ghosts, warriors and outlaws who haunt Lucas’s rough-grain vocals tell their stories with both sardonic humor and dark urgency.
