Biography
On the back of collective frustration and in need of a fresh approach, Dave Widdowson, John Lawless and Paul Brogan formed Metonia in the Spring of 2004. Throwing ideas round a cramped practice space, they succeeded in finding themselves and have since gone on to be one of the North West's most promising indie/alternative rock bands due to their energetic live shows, and emotive songs. With influences ranging from Doves, Radiohead and Broken Social Scene, the band achieved a sound built around the quality of their song writing, from soaring choruses to an intimate edginess.
Metonia's first real exposure came in July 2006, when they emerged from relative obscurity to take 2nd place in the North West Final of the highly acclaimed Emergenza Festival held at Manchester Academy 2. Metonia would repeat this feat the following year, again reaching the finals this time held at the Carling Academy in Glasgow. 2007 also saw Metonia release their debut album, "The Seven Time" recorded at 6dB Studios in Salford by noted session bassist and all round wonderman Simon "Ding" Archer (PJ Harvey, Frank Black, The Fall), This 11 track collection was well received and showcased many facets of the band's sound, from the jazz/rock hybrid "Give In Or Try", to the dublike "Monkey On Your Back", via anthems in waiting "Brakewalls" and "Again".
From the beginning Metonia have always been about the live experience. The raw approach to their songs allowing the band to give themselves completely to the music, which has on numerous occasions left many an audience stunned. In the cold light of day, Metonia have got the lot.

"Brakewalls" sparkles and shimmers with radio potential" (High Voltage Magazine)

"Like the Foos and The Manics, Metonia deal in melodies that are spiky and populist at the same time" (High Voltage Magazine)
