Biography
Finally, a female vocalist who doesn't sound like all the other female recording artists today. Distinct as late career Joni Mitchell, strong as Emmylou Harris, warm as Mary Chapin Carpenter all rolled into one: an original is born." – No Depression.com

Nena Anderson’s voice is velvet, a rich contralto, smoothly able to change from a whisper in your ear to a howl…soulful, sexy and intimate. Her phrasing and stage presence are reminiscent of jazz greats: bluesy, reserved, commanding you to watch and listen.

Currently Nena fronts her solo band as well as honky-tonk band, Brawley. In addition she is also a member of collaborative book/album/concert project, For The Sender,, and tours with Johnny Cash Tribute, Cash’d Out, as June Carter Cash. Nena has shared stages as support or collaborated with Lucinda Williams, Gregg Allman, Raul Malo, Dave Alvin, Switchfoot, Dan Hicks, Cindy Lee Berryhill, The Blasters, Charlie Musselwhite, and Albert Lee.

Performing in San Diego and nationally with various ensembles, her band projects have earned 13 San Diego Music Award nominations, in the categories of Best Jazz, Best Acoustic, Best Americana, Best Tribute and Best New Artist. Several of her tracks have been released internationally in Poland, Turkey, Russia, Greece, Germany, UK, Spain, Belgium, South Korea, and Asia.

Anderson has been interviewed on KPBS Midday Edition as well as many local FM and online radio and tv stations. Her band, Brawley, was featured last year on the first season of PBS “Belly Up Live” television series.

Her first all-original album Beyond the Lights was released in September 2011 (produced by Mike Butler), earning a Best Album recognition and comparisons to early Lucinda Williams, Rickie Lee Jones and Bob Dylan with its accessible and deceptively uncomplicated lyrics and bluesy sound. From the moody, minor-keyed, driving swamp blues to rollicking 60's piano soul groove or catchy two-step country heartache of "I Fall In Love Too Fast," Nena proves she can write timeless songs for a modern audience. She has since released the single “Kiss You Goodnight” through Randm Records and a self-released “under the radar” album of demos entitled Serenade.

"Radio Creds" are votes awarded to artists by radio programmers who have downloaded their music and have been impressed with the artist's professionalism and the audience's response to the new music. Creds help artists advance through the AirPlay Direct community.

Only radio accounts may add a Radio Cred. One week after the track has been downloaded the radio account member will receive an email requesting a Cred for each artist they've downloaded.
