You'd Better Get Them Singing - Spoken Word
Disc 1, track 12 (1:45)
Performing at a union meeting for Oklahoma oil-drillers, Woody and the crowd were joined by armed strike-breakers. Singing in the face of intimidation, as well as the presence of women and children at the meeting, may have helped avert violence. One of the women present asked Woody to write a song honoring the ladies of the labor movement, which inspired his song "Union Maid."
