As the Story Goes

Verse 1
I only know as the story goes
of a little boy many years ago
He could’ve been 'bout nine or ten
it’s hard to remember way back then
Sat there cryin' all alone
on the curbside out behind his home
A dream born to him this day
did not know from where or why it came
He heard music in his ears
he saw the lights
and he heard the cheers
A feelin' he had never known
and it lifted him
he stood and walked on home

Verse 2
Little boy grew as years moved on
adolescence cast its winsome song
When his world began to shake
with tremors of his first heart break
His dream was there to guide him on
down those darkened roads we all travel on
Then it began to take shape
seemed less one of choice more one of fate
He heard music in his ears
he saw the lights
and he heard the cheers
A feelin' he had felt before
only stronger, one he could not ignore

Verse 3
Seasons of the heart come and go
many layers deep with scars I’m told
Then the darkest cloud moved in
he was on the edge and his dream swept in
Danced above him like a butterfly
oh so beautiful yet up so high
Seemed like he’d never reach it
how many times he almost quit
He walked the path his life would go
and at times his dream was all he’d know
Like a lifelong friend from the start
it was always there, it was always in his heart

Verse 4
This story’s not over by any means
it’s like a river keeps
flowin' out to the sea
It’s one of triumph filled with joy
of a dream that came to a little boy
So all you hold on to your dreams
no matter how far away they seem
When cold winds begin to blow
when you’re placed to face
one of life’s crossroads
When waters turn you back upstream
when darkness falls down in between
It’s your dreams, your dreams
It’s your dreams, your dreams
Your dreams
