“Whiskey, Wine & Water” review -Sound Waves.com
But what stands out is Stacy’s voice. It is reminiscent of Bonnie Raitt, with the twang of Patsy Cline, and the attitude of Brittany Howard from Alabama Shakes, yet it is completely unique. Her voice has personality – not the canned, auto-tuned, ever-so-perfect female vocals you hear on mainstream radio. She twists and turns her melody lines like she’s telling a story, and it’s just brilliant. My favorite track on the album, “4 Days More,” exemplifies this technique the best. The melody and the lyrics wind up and down, in and out, and around the story, and they fit just perfectly. It’s so refreshing to hear a singer not be afraid to “talk-sing,” instead of focusing on hitting the right notes all the time.
Stacy’s acoustic guitar playing on “Hole in My Sole,” “Can’t Do Nothing’ Right,” and the Allman Brothers-ish “Waiting” is just excellent. The lone ballad on the CD, “To Be Loved,” has nice acoustic guitar work too and is just a great song. The tune’s understated lyrical lines are smooth and comforting. Couldn’t we all use a little comfort amid all this noise these days? The title track stems from a night spent out with her best friend drinking whiskey, wine, and water. It makes you feel like she’s the kind of girl you just want to hang out with – real, true, and genuine. Just like her songs. I really want to see her and the band live, but looks like current tour dates only include the Washington area. Bummer!
