Don't Cry For Me
A shell exploded, a flash of light, a soldier crumpled and lost his sight
The pain was searing, medics ran, a nurse's angry tears touched his blood-stained hand
He whispered softly as she bent low, and she wrote his message down to send it home

Don't cry for me, don't say it's not fair
We serve a sovereign God, He is everywhere
He's been with me since I took my first breath
His perfect plan includes this my death

A doctor's office, walls of white, he was determined to save her life
His many honors and expertise couldn't cure or stop the spread of her disease
A husband's anguish, her childrens' prayers, she simply smiled and said to them with loving care

Don't cry for me, don't say it's not fair
We serve a sovereign God, He is everywhere
He's been with me while on earth I did roam
Now it is time, I am going home

A child expected, a little one, maybe a daughter, perhaps a son
They told their friends and their family, another blossom soon would grace their family tree
When they lost the heartbeat, they cried in disbelief
Went to their knees and heard a voice in their grief

Don't cry for me, don't say it's not fair
I can see Jesus in the air
He's here with me, I reach for His hand
He's carrying me home to his promised land

Don't cry for me
