Biography
“Hotel rooms, guitars, heartbreak, aging, drinking, jubilation, the apocalypse…”
- David Brooks, on his inspiration for The David Motel's debut album: People, Places, Things
The David Motel is the latest project from singer/songwriter David Brooks. People, Places, Things offers tales of weariness originating from too many nights spent in hotel rooms, too much heartbreak, the inevitable passage of time, and the unceasing struggle to keep up. Chronicling the transition from collegiate life in Baton Rouge to urban professional life in Nashville, the album thematically doubles as a geographic passport for Brooks and his life experiences over the past decade.
“These songs embody the roller coaster of emotions I’ve experienced over the last several years. There have been highs and lows. And this collection really puts that journey into perspective,” says Brooks.
Recorded in Nashville, Tennessee, with producer and songwriter David Coleman (The Coal Men), the album features twelve tracks that weave together a variety of Americana influences, from roots rockers (“Green Eyes”, “Ain’t that How It Goes”), wistful ballads (“Sing Me to Sleep”, “Little Girl From Natchez”), mid-tempo country (“Goodbye Loneliness”, “Shine Your Shoes”) and even soothsaying celebratory numbers (“12-21-12”).
